Indeed, Nigerian youths have shown the world that a change is possible and it is already happening in the country with the way unity, selflessness and love has been playing out since the beginning of the #SARSMUSTEND protests across the nation.
If you have not had the chance to be at the protest ground? Here are beautiful things we have seen occur in various protest venues.
- Nigerians look out for each other
Yes o! Despite the differences, everyone became their brother’s keeper.
People cheered up protesters that got weary. Groups chased off police officers and soldiers trying to attack them.
There were hundreds of lawyers that volunteered to provide free legal services when some protesters were arrested. The quick medical attention for those who were shot and injured was really impressive.
- Donations by Nigerians from across the world
As soon as the protest gained ground, Nigerians home and abroad started donating funds and relief materials. This gesture really motivated people to keep coming out for the protests.
- The Clean-up crew
Nigerians are neat people abeg. They ensured to adhere to the “Keep Nigeria clean” slogan. Some youths took it upon themselves to make sure the protest environment was not littered. This sense of responsibility is what we love to see.
- Loss items were retrieved and returned to owners
This level of integrity is a pointer that Nigeria will be great again. Phones, gadgets and items misplaced during the protests were found and returned to the rightful owners. Those that couldn’t be recovered people crowdfund for a replacement. Such love!
- The Epic Unity
Since the last twenty years, the #EndSARS protest is the largest we’ve seen in Nigeria.
A study by Afriques Connectées disclosed that the #EndSARS surpasses #BlackLivesMatter movement packing nearly 30 million tweets on Twitter within two days.
Nigerians are speaking with one voice defying the fault lines of ethnic, religious and social political differences.
- People connected at the protest grounds
New friends were made, contacts were shared, people found love and possible life partners, and business deals were sealed.
- Marriage Proposal
Nigerians will say “na man or woman who follow us go protest na im we go marry”. A male lover proposed to his girlfriend while the protest was on, that moment was beautiful and epic!
- Men gave whistles to women
This was to ensure that ladies are adequately protected against any form of harassment and molestation on the protest ground. They only have to blow the whistle and guys promptly come to their aid when in distress. Isn’t this thoughtful?
- Governors were forced to succumb
The Lagos and Rivers State protest scenes where the governor addressed the youths was a great one to behold. The message passed was “if you cannot beat them, you join them!”
- The Cruise and Vibes
Trust Nigerians to use some of our leaders, celebrities and police officers to catch cruise. Have you heard the latest slang #Sorosoke, Werey dey Disguise’, ‘Buhari has been a bad boy” and others that keep us ‘LMAO!’
- People lend their talents
You have to give it up for Nigerian youths. They are bunch of talents! They came up with great jokes, memes, songs, art works, and videos to show that the call for #EndSARS was total and a cause everyone must join to achieve the purpose of the protest.
