The storm is not over yet for American R&B superstar, R Kelly, as he has been convicted in a sex trafficking trial.

The singer was convicted after avoiding responsibility for several allegations of misconduct against young women and children.

The 54-year-old was found guilty of all the nine-count charges leveled against him by a jury on their second day of deliberations.

The ‘Trapped in the closet’ singer, who was motionless as court proceedings wore on, was alleged to have headed a criminal enterprise, which had persons who helped him meet girls and keep them obedient and quiet during escapades.

Two persons have been charged alongside the singer in pending cases in Chicago.

WHAT THIS MEANS:

  • The case, instituted in a federal court in Brooklyn, is one of the numerous cases against the one-time king of R&B.
  • The emergence of several testifiers means the singer will experience a prolonged jail term, considering the testimony of his victims.
  • Reports also state that the singer, who has been in jail since 2019, faces life imprisonment after formal sentencing.
  • R Kelly is also accused of violating the Mann Act, an anti-sex trafficking law that prohibits taking anyone across state lines “for any immoral purpose.”

The public and news media had failed to react to allegations of Kelly’s inappropriate relationships with minors, beginning with his illegal marriage to the late R&B sensation, Aaliyah, in 1994 when she was just 15.

With sentencing scheduled for May 4, 2022, Deveraux Cannick, one of Kelly’s lawyers, said he was disappointed with the court’s decision against his client and hopes to appeal it.
