Nigeria’s largest telecommunication company, MTN Nigeria, has restored its services after millions of Nigerians on Saturday were unable to access the call, data and SMS services of the telecommunication giant.
This also affected subscribers whose bank accounts were linked with their MTN SIM.
According to the latest industry statistics from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), MTN has over 77 million subscribers. Making it the most used telecom outfit.
MTN customers in Sokoto, Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Plateau, Abuja, Lagos had confirmed service outages, noting that the network icon continues to show “No service.”

Some users said even after restarting their phones several times, they were unable to make, receive calls and access the internet.
MTN is yet to issue an official statement over the development that left many guessing what the problem could be.
This is coming just a few days after social media giant, Facebook Inc., experienced a downtime, causing its platforms- Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, to be inaccessible by billions of users worldwide.
The development had an adverse effect on the fortune of Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who dropped to fifth place on the world billionaires ranking. He reportedly lost $7 billion dollars.
The company, which began its Nigerian operations in 2001, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in August.
