The Electoral umpire in the country, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State inconclusive.
This decision reached by INEC was followed by the suspension of collation of results pending the conduct of the election in Ihiala Local Government Area.
The electoral body’s Returning Officer for the Anambra Governorship election, Prof. Florence Obi, made this known in Awka, the state capital in the early hours of Monday morning, November 8, 2021.
Professor Obi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, announced that the winner of the Anambra elections will be announced when the last run of the election is held in Ihiala on Tuesday, November 9.

According to the University Don, the election could not hold in the Ihiala LGA due to security challenges.
She said:
“As the Electoral Officer, I hereby announce the suspension of result until elections are held in all the polling units in Ihiala.
“Supplementary election will take place in the area on Nov. 9.”
Recall that INEC, on Saturday, extended voting till Sunday, following the failure of the Biomodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in many polling units across the state
The exercise was also extended beyond the closing time of 2:30 pm on the election day. This was despite the commission declaring its complete readiness for the polls.
INEC resident electoral commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, said BVAS failed in many areas because of a software breach.
According to him, the extension was therefore to enable those who could not cast their votes to do so.
Many polling units experienced the breach, thereby delaying the voting process and frustrating eligible voters.
