It’s not every day one gets a reason to laugh but when the occasion rises, laugh out loud; roll on the floor if you can.

This is in view of the fact that the outfit that was worn by President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo State today, September 9, 2021, has generated plenty of reactions, with many Nigerians seizing the opportunity to pass hilarious comments about the first citizen of the country.

President Buhari had visited Imo at the invitation of the state governor, Hope Uzodimma, to inaugurate projects his (Uzodimma) administration just completed.

The Commander-in-Chief, as part of efforts to identify with Igbo fashion, wore a cream-coloured ‘Isi-agu’ top with pants to match; an appearance equally adopted by the Governor Uzodimma, who received the president at the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, the state capital.

Despite appearing in his ‘best,’ what caught the eyes of Nigerians was the fitting and length of the president’s pants, leaving Nigerians to make a mockery of Buhari’s appearance.

Photos from the inauguration showed that the length of the trouser was not properly measured as its bottom hem was high above Buhari’s ankle.

Reacting to what many described as a show of clownery, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, while writing on his Instagram page, mockingly, asked Buhari why he agreed to wear the outfit.

Omokri stated:

“Look at the trouser you are wearing. Whoever gave you this trouser to wear is a coward. That person does not like you. But, unlike the average Igbo man in the Southeast, the person does not have the guts to say it to your face. Hence, he or she chose to show it to you by giving you trousers that no person would voluntarily choose to wear.

“Was it Kyari the tailor that sewed this trouser for you? Even you, how would someone present this trouser to you and you agree to wear it? Where is your judgment? Trouser that looks like what you did to the Nigerian economy? Even prisoners wear better trousers than this. Trouser that looks like what a plumber sewed. Honestly, Buhari you could have done better!”

Meanwhile, the show in Imo and the reaction of Nigerians means that:

  • Many Nigerians are not a fan of the former head of state and wished he was not the president of Nigeria.
  • It equally implies that as one of the chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dislike for Buhari is, by extension, dislike for the party.

In the meantime, there was no crowd to receive Buhari as the residents of the state obeyed the directive of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to sit at home.

Those who merely received the president were rented.
