Atiku suspected Tinubu forged academic credentials from CSU. Legal action in US compelled CSU to release Tinubu’s records.

A legal case was filed in the District Court, Northern Illinois, United States, ordering CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records.

Kalu Kalu a legal representative for Atiku during a press conference held by Atiku stated the following points:

  • Alleged Tinubu forged his certificate for INEC.
  • CSU documents showed a female name, suggesting the certificate wasn’t his.
  • Indicated Tinubu attended Government College Lagos in 1970; the school was founded in 1974, creating a gap.
  • CSU document described an owner as a “Black American,” conflicting with Tinubu’s citizenship claim.
  • Signature discrepancies were noted; Afolabi explained certificates were not issued upon graduation.

Tinubu’s lawyer, Wole Afolabi:

  • Explained CSU’s “F” gender marker mix-up, matching other particulars.
  • Clarified certificates weren’t issued upon graduation; the issuer might not have been at the university in 1979.

Presidential spokesperson’s response:

  • Dismissed forgery claims, noting CSU didn’t label Tinubu’s certificate fake.
  • Argued one can’t forge their academic records and suggested that lost certificates are handled by vendors, not the university.
